Peyton Sellers continued his recent dominance Saturday night by taking both twin 60 lap features and widening the gap in the Geico of Fredericksburg Late Model points battle.
Sellers started out the night by taking the pole with a lap time of 15.36 over Doug Barnes’s 15.37. Following the redraw, Sellers started fourth giving the pole to John Goin. Goin and Doug Barnes took turns leading the first feature before Sellers assumed the lead only 17 laps in. Once he was out front, there was really no question as to who the car to beat was again. With only one caution in the feature there was no chance to get the field bunched back up and Sellers drove away. Goin and Mason Bailey rounded out the top three.
Due to the mandatory eight car invert, Sellers started eighth in the second feature putting Barnes on the pole. Goin looked to be pulling a Sellers by pulling away but eventually Barnes caught him and the two ran side by side until a caution slowed their progress. The side by side action allowed Sellers to pick his way through the field and climb into third spot. Following the caution, Barnes and Goin continued their side-by-side battle until Barnes began to slide backwards in the field. Sellers, after biding his time, finally took the lead from Goin with 16 laps left and went on to win his second feature of the night. Goin and Bailey rounded out the top three. Barnes ended up finishing twelfth after becoming ill in the car. Other notables were two-time feature winner Davey Callihan who finished 15th in the first feature after fighting handling issues but rebounded in the second to finish eighth. Cole Bruce, who was making his return after a horrible crash two weeks ago, rolled out his backup car and started 14th in the first feature but came home sixth in both races.
The Alcova Mortgage Dominion Stocks ran twin 20 lap features that saw Richard Powers and Dan Rogers split victory lane time. Rogers started dead last in the field for the first race and was sitting sixth in the field when the yellow flag flew for the first caution. By the time the next caution came out a few laps later, Rogers was up to second. When the green flag flew for the restart, Rogers did his best to try and get past Powers to take another win on the season, but Powers held him off to take the win. Rogers and Jacob Wood rounded out the top three.
The second feature saw Rogers and Powers start seventh and eighth due to the invert. Rogers was able to pick his way through the field to get back to the front but Carson Higgs and Powers both did their best to keep Rogers from taking the win, but both fell just short. Higgs tried to take the lead following a restart due to a late caution, but Powers held him off to help extend his points lead on the season. Higgs and Powers rounded out the top three.
In other action, the mini cup division ran twin 25 la features that saw the Warriner take both feature wins and Johnny Shonk and Jack Sprouse finished second and third in both races.
In the Alcova Mortgage UCAR division, Cameron Ruggles was able to work his way through the field from the fifth starting position and take his second win in a row and second win of the year. Jimmy Parker and Mike Chapman rounded out the top three.
Next week Dominion will have six feature races which will see the Alcova Mortgage Modified division run twin 50 lap races, and the Trucking Thunder Virginia Racers with a 35-lap feature. The Alcova Mortgage UCARS will run a 25-lap feature, the Absolutely Amish Structure Any Cars will run 20 laps and the Mini Cups are back in action with a 25-lap feature.
